When searching for your next holiday destination, online resources like blogs, travel diaries, and social media content are often the first port of call. It’s the first chance you have to entice visitors to your destination and highlight all the amazing things that are on offer.

With the market being so competitive, ensuring your content ranks for key SEO terms (including long tail keywords) helps potential holidaymakers find you quicker. It was for this purpose that I worked with Iceland Tours, one of the leading providers of tours in Iceland, providing multi-day, self drive, private, group and guided tours across the country.

Working with Iceland Tours over a period of four months, I produced blog content such as:

Katla Ice Cave – The Ultimate Guide (ranking organic result 1, page 1 of Google under keyword search ‘katla ice cave guide’)

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon – The Ultimate Guide (ranking organic result 1, page 1 of Google under keyword search ‘jokulsarlon glacier lagoon guide’)

Top 10 Day Iceland Itinerary Ideas (ranking organic result 9, page 1 of Google under keyword search ’10 days in Iceland ideas’)

Top 5 Day Iceland Itinerary Ideas (ranking organic result 8, page 1 of Google under keyword search ‘top 5 day itinerary Iceland)

Best Time To See The Northern Lights In Iceland

For each blog, briefs with keywords to include were supplied, ranked in priority order for inclusion. I was required to conduct my own research extensively, searching for hidden travel gems, must-see destinations, and the ultimate tips for tourists visiting the Land of Fire and Ice. I then worked with the client to incorporate amends such as internal links to include and priority products to push. Meta titles and descriptions were also written and included as standard, checked to Google specifications.

As part of a wider SEO strategy update to the site, I also produced 11 new SEO category content pages, which are due to be uploaded in 2023 when the update is ready to go live.

Even better, I was able to apply my own first-hand experience and knowledge to the content, having visited Iceland for 8 days in 2012 and 5 days in 2022!
