Forget-me-not, flax.
Corncockle and cow parsley,
Meadowsweet and morning glory.
Teasel, nettle, rambling rose,
Bracken, ash and ancient oak.

Dancing above, a butterfly choir
Of peacock, admiral, tortoiseshell.
Cabbage white to orange tip,
Common blue and twirling swallowtail.
Painted lady, heath fritillary,
Partners with Duke of Burgundy.

Weaving between soft papery wings,
Boisterous bumble and humble honey bee,
Carpenter, buff tail, miner and mason,
Solitary, hive, queen or worker.
All humming to nectar’s call.

Cinnabar, burnet and mother shipton, 
Lunar ladies so daring in the day.
Perhaps silvery light better suits,
Hawks, tigers, and flame shoulders, 
Blood vein or brimstone,
Peppered players under misted stars.

Handkerchief gardens and postage stamp plots,
Sweeping wild woods and lazy meadows.
Nature’s web
Surrounds us, embroiders us
Into fabric, skin, taut and balanced.
